Tangled (Disney's Rapunzel)

Who cares about the hair... Rapunzel's bare feet look positively enchanting.

Here's a bit of a change from the usual videogame vixen, a barefoot virtual princess from Disney's upcoming CG Rapunzel flick, Tangled. Though now in 3D CG animation, this seems a bit of a throwback to the classic 2D Disney flicks about a decade or so ago, which is a good thing. But that aside, the awesomeness is in Rapunzel's design. For starters, she's mind-numbingly gorgeous.

This Disney Princess is a Knockout!

Then, aside from just having yards and yards of hair, she's gotten the pretty awesome ability of manipulating her golden locks, ala Medusa (the hair-controlling Inhuman from Marvel Comics, not the Gorgon). But the most important part is, apparently she goes barefoot for at least a good part of the movie- at least in the beginning. Check out the cool teaser trailer for some nice peeks at this princess's tender and tasty tootsies in action!

The first parts of Rapunzel you see (aside from her hair) are her feet. Talk about Love at First Sight!

Seeing this scene (and Rapunzel's toes) in motion is sure to have foot fans' drooling.

Tangled looks to be a surefire foot fan favorite.

And contrary to most CG flicks, the animators have put a lot of effort into animating Rapunzel's adorable feet, so I expect foot fans will have this particular Disney flick in their libraries once it's out. I just hope that Rapunzel doesn't start wearing shoes immediately after she goes out of her tower, or that she goes barefoot at least some of the time afterwards. We'll just have to wait and see. But what has so far been seen looks simply foot-tastic!

This really isn't a surprise as Disney has had a history of awesome barefoot babes in its films- Sleeping Beauty, Hunchback of Notre Dame... now Tangled. Awesome! This flick is out late this year... something to look forward to then!

  1. Excellent post Sole! ^^ I have heard about Disney doing a movie based off from the story of Rupunzel. I didn't expect it to be CG. That caught me by surprise! haha. Not to mention, the main star is just cute and adorable. Doesn't surprise me since Mandy Moore is the princess' voiceover. Great job as always man.

  2. There's also a DC comics character named Godiva of the Global Guardians team with similar powers, and also blonde, unfortunaly, she had her hair stolen by a organ theft back in 2006 in JSA: Classified.

  3. Finally after several CG movies about bugs, rats, monsters, robots and a slight GTS tease...we finally get to see a barefoot girl show off her feet in glorious computer generation. Really awesome post Sole Keeper!!

  4. Indeed, this Disney flick looks to be totally awesome, perhaps the best one ever for our persuasion. ^_^ Let's hope that the fair Rapunzel stays barefoot for as long as possible. November's still far away, but this looks to be something really worth waiting for.

  5. The feet remind me of super street fighter four's

design. I remember seeing the poster on another

    blog. good post sole.

  6. Holy crap this is the first time I've heard of this. They really did a number on those feet of hers. Nice post Sole Keeper. ;)

  7. Finally a pretty and barefoot Disney Princess!

I love Rapunzel's feet. They are very precious. I´m from Spain and have wanted to see the movie and those feet. 3D, of course ^_^.

    Greetings.

  8. Well this might be a latecomer news but

The movie is out, and unlike the trailer which was made to "hide" what it's about until the end, we knew it was Rapunzel by the time we are in theater, so they didn't do the whole "cat toying with mouse" scene in the so in a way Rapunzel's personality isn't that of the "violent/playful princess" but more of the traditional "naive princess" which is kind of disappointing to me.

But this isn't a movie review, she did stay bare feet the entire movie, but it did not have as much focus. Too bad.

  9. Her feet look great from looking at the trailer...

    ReplyDelete
  10. Rapunzel stays barefoot pretty much 98 percent of the time she's onscreen. Literally, you never see her wearing shoes- though at the very end I guess she's wearing them but then it doesn't matter.

While closeups are limited to one (really nice one though) scene, her feet are seen throughout in various angles and you can really see how much detail they put into them- easily the most realistic and lifelike (and gorgeous) bare feet animated, ever! ^__^

    ReplyDelete
  11. There is only one extreme close up shot of her feet (when she's sitting with flynn in the forest) but there are so many times her feet are given shots all to themselves... i've lost count guys. now my favourites have got to be the one of her feet as she slowly places her toes into the grass when she first escapes the tower, and at the end of the kingdom dance scene when she's spinning around.

    ReplyDelete
  12. As far as i'm concerned, its a huge coincidence (bordering on the unbelievable) that THIS many direct shots of her feet are present by accident in this film. but mother of god, i couldn't care less and i'm so glad they made Rapunzel barefoot. she's just so adorable. =>

    ReplyDelete
  13. Well, at the very least, Rapunzel's being barefoot isn't a throwaway thing- it's really, truly an integral part of her design and her character, which makes it work so nicely. The fact that they never try to hide her feet and show them off so wonderfully is truly a godsend for foot fans. This film is a work of art in any case- we just appreciate it so much more.

    ReplyDelete
  14. i can't help but wonder whether or not she's got shoes on in the end sequence... i guess even if she has they don't show them to maintain the image of Rapunzel being a barefoot character... as you rightly said sole keeper, its actually part of her image

    ReplyDelete
  15. Lets have a vote. how many of you believe that flynn sucked her toes in an unseen scene during the duration of this film? ><

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hahaha! It's kinda sad that the ending is so final- Rapunzel both loses her magical hair and is assumed to be able to start wearing shoes from then on.

However, we can assume as well that since they don't get married right after the story ends, they'll probably have adventures aplenty along the way to getting married and becoming the next King and Queen. I think that Rapunzel will continue to go barefoot as much as she can, yet will still wear shoes when formality requires. Best of both worlds then. ^_^

Oh, and of course Flynn gave her toe service- you saw the look on his face when he first saw her. Foot Fan, definitely. ^___^

    ReplyDelete
  17. hehehe- that's my pascle laugh => and oh so true. flynn is a foot fan, when he sees Rapunzel's hair braided first, where's his eyes aimed? we all know what's on his mind => btw, solekeeper i'm assuming your in the US somewhere and so have access to the films disk release on the 29th of march right? or at least that's north america according to wikipedia. i'm in the uk and so i'm hoping for a blu rip some time soon...

    ReplyDelete
  18. And oh yes... even if we don't know what is on flynn's mind, the horse certainly does! => maximus's eyebrow raise pretty much says it all. that coupled with flynn's following embarrassment simply confirms our suspicions of him => he's a foot fan, and the horse knows it! lol i couldn't help but notice this while watching the ppv rip...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Actually, I'm not in the US. Blu-ray rips of Tangled are already online so get those torrents working, man. I got myself a 720p rip some time ago and it's awesome. ^_^

    ReplyDelete
  20. Are you serious? they are already out? where's that come from then? =>

    ReplyDelete
  21. Is it already out on blu ray somewhere?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I mean Blu-ray ripped files. They're already online on P2P. If you know how to download from torrents, it's there. If not, well, best to wait for the actual discs.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm looking more at fileserve and megaupload at the moment because my connection seriously disagrees with torrents... there's one up in 11 parts on fileserve so i'l give that a go. i just hope its the right thing. and i mean these rips must have come from somewhere where the film is already out right?

    ReplyDelete
  24. I've just previewed the download. wow hd rules man!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yep. No other way to see this masterpiece but in HD. ^_^

    ReplyDelete
  26. download complete! this film is foot fan's masterpiece! i'm glad i got it in 720p, 1080p is just way too big to download and i don't really have anything to keep a hard copy of it on. not to mention that the difference is barely noticeable. i can fit this on a disk so that's great. now those dainty little feet can be seen in sharp hd, *drawl* =>

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm still interested in where these rips have come from though... as far as i know, its not even out on disk of any kind yet... so is this some kinda leek?

    ReplyDelete
  28. And solekeeper, you rule! if it wasn't for you i would still be in the dark about this film! *I like Rapunzel* A lot =>

    ReplyDelete
  29. Welcome, dude(s). Surely these rips come from early copies of the Blu-ray. That always happens, that's why these torrents exist. That's the way things go. Enjoy the film, anyways! It's awesome. ^___^

    ReplyDelete
  30. The film makers really do show her feet one serious heck of a lot in this movie. more than what's necessary almost... but aren't we all just so happy they did? ^^

    ReplyDelete
  31. its about time to get some clips up now solekeeper. i'm sure you know all the best scenes >.<

    ReplyDelete
  32. My 720p blu ray rip keeps getting this black line up the left hand side of the screen. its not terrible and quickly disappears but its annoying anyway. is everyone else getting this problem meaning its part of the film, or have i got a dodgey copy? otherwise the copy is fine by all means

    ReplyDelete
  33. I won't be posting clips of Tangled- for starters, I can't post them on my Youtube Channel since (1) I only post videogame clips and (2) posting clips will most probably get my channel suspended. Posting them on Sole Patrol is also kinda useless since it's so low-res, which would be a waste of the HD footage.

I just recommend every footfan to get the movie- either by download or buying the Blu-ray. It's really the one Must Get movie for foot fans. ^_^

    ReplyDelete
  34. Maybe I'll post some choice screencaps of Tangled here on the blog. Maybe. We'll see...

    ReplyDelete
  35. Good good! oh are Rapunzel's toe nails painted? sometimes they look pink and sometimes they don't... Like when she's stepping out of the tower, and puts her toes into the grass... what's your opinion?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Not really sure that there's natural color nail polish in her world, but if she does do anything aside from regular grooming, that's all she does- she IS a girl, after all. ^__^

    ReplyDelete
  37. Herm... i bet that flynn knows ^.^

    ReplyDelete
  38. She does look at her toes a lot as well... like the bit at the beginning when she's sitting on a beam near the ceiling...

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm surprised anime feet has not updated yet, what with the film out now and all

    ReplyDelete
  40. I know that they had to use some highly advanced software for her hair, but the feet are defiantly an advancement in modeling too. did they use some new software for those as well? because they are amazingly realistic looking from ANY angle...

    ReplyDelete
  41. Unfortunately there has never been any feature or documentary that has explained how they did her feet (man, our fave body part is so under-appreciated...). I'm thinking it's motion captured in some degree. They're so wonderfully animated, down to her toes. Such a wonderful thing. ^___^

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yeah they could be motion captured... its hard to tell now that computer imagery has advanced so far, but i think that makes sense for dancing scenes and close ups. its a shame her feet aren't mentioned in bonus footage but i'm sure Rapunzel would appreciate our devotion. oh man, those toes... ^^

    ReplyDelete
  43. I've made a final decision and i think the best foot scene in the film is when she first leaves the tower and steps into the grass... its perfection. great angle, well lit so we can see, dainty toes spreading out, then you see her other foot come down, it all looks so real. And then? we're treated to her stepping into a pond after she takes no more than two steps. great stuff =>

    ReplyDelete
  44. Ok i've checked and i can confirm that there was no motion capture used in the making of tangled. i gotta say i'm surprised by this. Rapunzel's feet must be entirely animated by computer... well done those designers!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Guys, great news! Disney is working on a 5-6 minute short film for the end of the year... we all know what that means, more of Rapunzel's feet! So we have something to look forwards to in a few months (provided of course that the the designers don't give her shoes now that she's the princess). This may answer our questions as to if she's bare foot at the end of the film or not. Sole keeper, what's your opinion?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Sounds great! I wonder though if it's set before or after the ending of the film since, well, Rapunzel loses her hair in the ending. Will it grow back? And of course, indeed, will she be barefoot again? I'm thinking that the hair and her being barefoot are integral to Rapunzel's character so these should be back somehow. It's something to look forward to then. Thanks for the heads up! ^_^

    ReplyDelete
  47. No problem dude. and i think that if its set after the film, she will look very much the way she does at the end of the movie. short brown hair, pink dress ect as this simply makes sense. either way, its just good to see a bit more of these characters. personally, i hope it is an extended version of Rapunzel's return just before the end, it will explain how flynn gets away with that criminal record of his and Rapunzel is known to be barefoot here too...

    ReplyDelete
  48. Oh gosh those toes... it would be something of a crime if they lock her feet away from the world. disney, please don't give Rapunzel shoes... im wondering if her new dress will actually go to ground unlike the previous ankle height dress. this would prevent us from seeing her feet completely...

    ReplyDelete
  49. Oh gosh it would be a crime if disney gave her shoes and lock her feet away from the world in this short. please disney, don't cover up her feet...

    ReplyDelete
  50. Well, if that short is worth anything, it will be set during the time when Rapunzel is barefoot and blonde... somehow. A short-haired, shoe-wearing Rapunzel is not Rapunzel... ^___^

    ReplyDelete
  51. True. well we all know Rapunzel looks at her best blond and barefoot, so no argument there. it seems strange though why they would take this opportunity and do a re-hash... but hey that's besides the point really at the end off the day right? ^^

    ReplyDelete
  52. i can't wait to see more of her feet, have you seen the extended scene of the intro? not much but its something, there's a better shot of her feet in this version...

    ReplyDelete
  53. There's an extended version of the intro? Must see this!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Yes its on youtube, don't get excited though dude its very short and most of the intro remains the same. Rapunzel does however cross her legs on the balcony which shows her feet entirely unlike the film version. the only video i can find has been pitched flipped to avoid copy write but it does the job =>

    ReplyDelete
  55. If you find a proper hd rip of it let me know =>

    ReplyDelete
  56. Solekeeper, im interested in your opinion on this. because even though Rapunzel is a barefoot character, there are other instances, such as flynn getting a boot off and even the six toed thug? please explain dude...

    ReplyDelete
  57. Also, they give Rapunzel's feet many dedicated shots throughout the movie, there's two in the dance alone, i mean, its a bit much isn't it? i've got no problems with this obviously, but before i even found this site i was thinking "One of the designers had a fetish"... Its almost like they want to make it obvious. Having a barefoot character is one thing but they do so many shots at her feet its got to be deliberate

    ReplyDelete
  58. To Anonymous:
You're asking me (obviously a Foot Guy) for my opinion on the amount of foot scenes in Rapunzel, if it's 'Too Much' or making it too obvious that this was made by someone with a thing for feet.

Personally, I don't think so. While she is barefoot for basically the whole movie and the film does not shy away from showing her feet in various situations, it never reaches the point that it's Too Obvious- Being 'Too Obvious' would, I think, entail long closeups of her soles and toes, closeups and lingering and detailed animations of toe wiggling and such, or closeups of her feet in general, or scenes with her manipulating things with her feet (also closeup), her enticing or using her feet to seduce, imaginative angles of her feet, and so forth.

As the film is, there are none of these- all the exposures of her feet are 'normal' situations (just her moving around, running, etc). There's really only two big closeups of her feet- when she first alights outside the tower (of which her bare feet are integral to the power of the scene, I believe), and the other where Pascal is seen leaning against her foot. I do not believe these constitute as 'too much'. Still, yes there may probably be someone on the production with a foot fetish, or at least someone who finds bare feet nice to look at, or like going barefoot themselves (or the idea of it).

The Flynn scene and the six-toed thug? NOT a foot fetish thing. First rule of normal foot fetish- NO GUY FEET. These scenes were basically for humor, and that's it- for guys, feet are funny and gross. Girl feet are dainty, perfect and never sullied- which fits into the film anyway perhaps due to the limits of the detail of the animation.

That all said though, I have to say that despite my bias as a foot guy, I really don't see what's wrong with the stylistic and thematic choice of the producers making Rapunzel barefoot- it symbolizes her as an innocent, pure character, gives her a unique handle and look, and fits her athletic, non-conventional character. Admittedly as well- it's sexy. Disney has had a history of this anyway- with Briar Rose in Sleeping Beauty.

Bottom Line though, this all probably only matters or is a subject of discussion ONLY if you are aware of foot fetishes and either have it OR have that unfathomable hatred or disgust for bare feet (the anitithesis of foot fetish- foot haters), you probably won't notice it much since probably for most people- feet are just feet. They're parts of your body at the ends of your legs that kinda look funny, are are usually equated with odors or tickling.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Haha, massive post sole. yeah well i just had to ask. i mean it actually makes complete sense that Rapunzel would be barefoot all the time anyway due to the fact that she's never had to go outside. as for the guy foot thing, agreed. none of that. and yeah your right about the shots not being extreme, i was just commenting on the shear number of times we see those dainty feet. wonderful! =p

    ReplyDelete
  60. Heheh... I guess that WAS a pretty long post eh? Well, I just wanted to be thorough. LOL

I have to say though that I don't think you need to have a foot fetish to appreciate feet, and to see them as beautiful. I really believe that feet are beautiful things, and I like looking at them, and it doesn't require or involve being turned on.
So that may be a part of Rapunzel's appeal- being barefoot makes beautiful women even more stunning, and that makes something like Rapunzel- a film where the heroine is barefoot but not actually making her feet be the centers of attention and engaging in overtly sexy acts- something very pleasing to watch for many people, be they actually having a foot fetish or not. Rapunzel, running barefoot in action, or just sitting and talking to Flynn, crossing her bare feet, is lovely enough... being barefoot makes it even more so.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Yeah your post was as long as the M1 => its great to see how gracefully she moves in general, especially her feet. Rapunzel has got to be the sweetest, most sexy and most innocent disney princess of all time. i gotta say, i've got a soft spot for her when her hair is done up nice =p

    ReplyDelete
  62. And i couldn't agree more. girls feet are beautiful when they take care of them. people get a wrong perception about feet because they are always seen as a forbidden area of the body that's nasty. But are we all not repulsed by things that look disgusting? feet that have been looked after look great and i don't see why there should be such a stigma or shame around the subject.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Has it nearly been a year since this blog was made? wow.

    ReplyDelete
  64. So how long you known about Rapunzel sole? long time i'm guessing...

    ReplyDelete
  65. I've known about Rapunzel since the first teaser trailer came out. Literally, the first part of her shown were her feet...

    ReplyDelete
  66. Yes i realised that as well... the one where she takes a step forwards and the camera is fixed on her feet. don't you think that scene where Rapunzel beats up flynn in the tower with her hair should have been left into the final film? or would it have damaged Rapunzel's "dainty" image? either way i liked the trailers =>

    ReplyDelete
  67. Yeah, that teaser trailer scene where Rapunzel has super-powered hair was left out entirely- I guess they decided to trim down her abilities. I wish they kept the part where the first part of her that Flynn (the camera POV) sees were her feet- that would kinda make him a foot guy... heheh.

Damn, Flynn is one lucky dude... ^_^

    ReplyDelete
  68. Haha, well we've already kinda established that he's given her toe service at some point, and yeah they should have left that shot in when she walks towards him. is it me or is flynn actually focussing on her feet in that scene already? come on, he is a foot fan. you don't mean to tell me that he agrees to take Rapunzel outside when he could just search that tower for the crown? he knows he's hit some luck there^^

    ReplyDelete
  69. After all, you could tear that tower apart brick by brick, but its not as if he would have found the satchel hidden beneath the stear case => he just decided to go for her toes instead ^^

    ReplyDelete
  70. I'm gonna say, i don't think we see enough of those pretty little feet. i'm constantly left wanting more =>

    ReplyDelete
  71. So... when's this short movie coming out? can't wait to see more of Rapunzel. and what do you think its going to be about?punzel. and what do you think its going to be about?

    ReplyDelete
  72. Gone real quiet solekeeper...

    ReplyDelete
  73. Nothing really else to be said. I have no information on any further Rapunzel films as yet, and if I did, I'll post it as a new post, not here in the comments of a years old post. Please stay tuned till then.
