DOA5 Ultimate Knockouts and the Future!

Over the holidays, I've been having a TON of fun rediscovering Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate.  I have to admit, while I've been a fan of the DOA series in general since the godly PSX version (which is, I believe, one of the first ever games to include unlockable barefoot swimsuits for the babes), my relationship with the franchise has been a rocky one. The game endlessly teased us with seemingly countless itinerations of DOA2, most of whom had absolutely zilch barefoot babe content at all. DOA3 came and inttroduced Hitomi, but other than that again was a dry bone. DOA4 pretty much lost me, and it wasn't until DOA5 Ultimate that FINALLY someone at Team Ninja apparently realized that there are people who like seeing the girls barefoot (usually in their swimsuits).



That the game is pretty challenging and some of the girls kinda hard to beat makes the KO sequences that follow that much more... satisfying.

Aside from that, I truly enjoyed at least the way they updated the girls' looks in the latest game- transitioning from the more anime-esque look of the past models to the slightly more realistic style of today- at the very least the girls have more unique looks from each other (Helena is truly a goddess).

My two big gripes with the game still bite though- one, the character models' feet are still far from looking the best. While the feet look great from above, at the sole view the girls' feet lack detail and could do with more life-like skin texture (Tekken 6 did this awesomely I think), and the toes seem to stick together. Also there's that weird issue of how the feet bend far too high up above the ankle, which is of course unnatural.

The other problem I have with DOA5 is the seeming lack of proper knockouts. This irritating bit started in DOA4, where every round ends usually with the losing character looking dizzy but basically still CONSCIOUS even though they may have been finished off by a fall from a hundred feet or a brain-busting suplex. This inability to render an enemy properly unconscious truly takes away a lot of the satisfaction in this game for me. To be fair, there IS an actual KO animation/frame in the game, but you need to hit the downed enemy with a certain hit to see it, and it is very, very brief to see (you literally have to hit them immediately after the actual KO hit or it to register without being cut off.

Anyway, thanks to my dabbling in the XNA Lara/XPS Posing program, I have managed to circumvent the lack of Knockouts in the game by, well, adding them in myself! Yep. DOA5, I REJECT your reality and substitute my own!



I guess this goes beyond just the foot fetish and crossing into the KO/sleepy fetish, but I believe these go hand in hand...

So I basically pose the models myself and add in these 'KO Endings' after the actual fights. The only limitation are, of course, the available models for both the characters and the models. I have at least one or two barefoot costume models of each girl, and about three stages- though I decided to use a bit of 'creative license' for some extra KO sequences.

For example, an Alternate KO Ending usable for the urban stages has the loser's unconscious bod being loaded onto the back of a mysterious van, to be taken away to some unknown fate (for the record, they're being sent to a spa to get a rejuvenating massage). I may add some more depending on what I think up. Yeah, it's kinda weird but hey, it's fun- like cooking up 'Fatalities'  but in DOA.



I can only do KO endings using the girls and stages I have models with, sadly. But thankfully I have enough...

Anyways, sadly there's nothing as yet I can do to remedy my second gripe- the foot model problem. Even sadder, it is quite apparent that this won't change in the upcoming Dead or Alive 5 Last Round release this coming February. However, I am looking forward to the prospect of seeing this gorgeous game in action in full 1080p.
Also, there IS the possibility that since it will be released on PC, there IS the possibility that modders may do the same wonders to the character models' feet that they did with Skyrim- that is, substitute more detailed, life-like foot models for the sub-standard ones from Team Ninja. Darn, just the thought of the DOA girls finally getting more realistic, detailed feet... wow. Please modders- someone like Sloth86 or such- PLEASE step up to this vital task! You are our only hope!

Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate Knockouts: Christie

Long, lethal, lovely. Christie is gorgeous head to toe.

In the entire Dead or Alive series, there's no girl quite like Christie. Physically, she's an impressive specimen simply for her impressive height (5' 10") and the body that would sizzle on magazine covers. Not sure if white hair would be a craze but if it could be, Christie and her perfect hair would start it. Yep indeed, Christie is a vision but that's not all there is to her. To be honest, Christie is the series' first and only true villainess- she is a bad girl and enjoys being it.

Christie's career started off even before her actual appearance in Dead or Alive 3, as shown in the (we assume) canon Story mode revealed in DOA5. She was, and is, the Chief Assassin to series' resident behind-the-scenes bad guy, Victor Donovan. She carried out an assassination attempt on Helena Douglas, though only succeeded in killing her mother. Since then, she's shadowed Helena, up until their most recent confrontation in which Christie revealed her deeds. Unrepentant (so far) and cold-blooded, Christie is one girl you can easily hate, but damn does she look gorgeous- evil never looked this good.
Only time will tell if there's truly nothing good inside the White-haired femme fatale's heart, but till then, I'll keep on enjoying her delicious looks, her slithery and sultry fighting style and of course, those perfect, positively kiss-worthy feet, toes and soles (the red toenail polish is a nice extra).

Thanks finally to her character model wearing her barefoot Hot Getaway swimsuit finally becoming available to me, I can now have Christie join my 'KO Match' series of videos on Youtube. So now, after a long, drawn-out battle, if she is knocked out we can enjoy the lovely assassin as she's lying out cold, her perfect feet totally left open and exposed (among other things) for us to ogle and view as she slumbers. Check out her first-ever KO match below. More are sure to come, since I am sure you'll agree- we love to see Christie lose (matches and consciousness), being such a bad girl that she is.

Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate 'Tropical' DLC brings MORE Barefoot Bikinis!

The latest DLC pack from Team Ninja is sure to please foot-loving gamers...

It's been a while since Team Ninja gave us good stuff, but lo and behold- they have some truly wonderful goodies for us with their latest add-ons for Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate. Really, not since the Hot Getaway set months and months ago was I so excited to shell out some bucks on PSN. This latest set of new outfits- titled apparently 'Tropical' DLC- has what looks like some of the hottest swimsuits yet for the lovely DOA girls. I am particularly liking Leifang's and Ayane's suits, and finally, FINALLY Sarah Bryant gets a proper barefoot swimsuit (I really didn't like her swim-shorts outfit from the Getaway set).
Sadly several of the girls' suits come with some form of footwear, but I am lucky that all of them aren't favorites of mine (Kokoro, Tina and Rachel), or already have a bikini I am happy with (Pai and Mila).

Anyways, the Tropical DLC set (and the Gravure Theater) are now available on the Japanese PSN for purchase... other territories should get it soon. Dead or Alive PSX: Retro Barefoot Bikini Babe Action!

Yeah, Leifang is my favorite- she's got the best swimsuit and looks best in-game.

Okay, Dead or Alive 5 is nearly upon us, so in anticipation of playing with Karate Gi Hitomi and Barefoot MMA Fighter Mila, I decided to revisit arguably my favorite DOA of al time- the Original Dead or Alive on the Playstation One.
Now, FYI to those not in the know, the DOA PSX version waa an awesome, awesome beat 'em up- in fact, in my humble opinion it's pretty much the BEST animated fighting game of that era- and certainly the sexiest, owing that in no small part to the fact that you could outfit the DOA girls in sexy swimsuits (unlockables). However, unlike the more recent DOA games that have sadly paired bikinis with footwear, DOA PSX nicely kept the girls barefoot in their swimwear (as they should, I say). The game also boasts silky-smooth animation (not sure if it's 30 or 60FPS, but it's so smooth- like Leifang's legs) and nice touches like sexy KO animations and victory screens with the unconscious opponent lying beside the victorious fighter.

Now, there's of course something special about the DOA PSX vids I've posted this time- previously I recorded gameplay using my original CD copy of the game. But recently I acquired the game via Digital Release, from the Asian Playstation Store (PSN) for the lovely price of only 6 Singapore Dollars... what a steal for such a classic!


The Digital Version of DOA PSX looks great on an HDTV (played off a PS3) as you can see in the vid.

Anyway, what's different about the DLC version? Well, aside from the simple fact that it runs from your PS3 HD (you can also play it on your PSP) and thus saves your console's Blu-ray Drive any effort, not much. Well, it's really more for someone like me- who records videos. Since the Digital Version is made specially for playing on PS3, the graphical glitching and wonky frame rate of the disc version is gone- so now the vids I have are perfectly smooth and flawless- no weird in-between frames when you pause, no skippy artifacts. Basically, it's like the game is remastered for HD! Well, kinda. In any case, DOA PSX looks GREAT on my PS3 and HDTV, as you can very well see.


Yes, the character models aren't as detailed as in newer DOA games, but man these are some sexy polygons...

Even after all this time, the DOA babes still move great in this game, and the gameplay is super-tight, fast, challenging (ratchet it up to Hardest for extra challenge) and really fun. AND sexy too. Man, I never get tired of seeing Leifang in her sexy blue one-piece... so hot.

So if you have a Japanese or Asian PSN account, spend the spare change and get this barefoot bikini babe classic! I highly recommend it. For now though, enjoy the vid and the classic retro bare soles of these hot battling babes.

More Barefoot Costumes in Dead or Alive: Dimensions?

Barefoot Lisa in DOA Dimensions?

Here's a tantalizing bit from the sexy 3DS fighter, Dead or Alive: Dimensions. We already know that the game will have, at least, one barefoot costume for DOA's karate princess, Hitomi- namely her trademark karate gi. Aside from this though, there hasn't been any sign that there will be other barefoot costumes available for any other DOA girl... till now!

The above pic is of a 'figure' that will be free to download soon after DOA:D's release- it's a two-character figure with a barefoot Lisa about to be suplexed by Tina Armstrong. Yes, it's a figurine, but conceivably the costume Lisa is wearing (in which she is barefoot) may be an available and/or unlockable costume in the game, or perhaps a DLC extra outfit. Additional costumes will be downloadable free for DOA:D sometime after release, via the 3DS's Spotpass feature. Conceivably there may be barefoot numbers among the at least 30++ coming extra costumes, perhaps even something awesome like Hitomi's polka-dot bikini from DOA Ultimate. We'll have to wait and see!

Anyway, I'll be grabbing a copy of Dead or Alive: Dimensions as soon as I can, so I'll be revealing all that I find in the game then. For now though, barefoot fans may seriously consider getting a 3DS (awesome toy) and the cool barefoot babe fighters on it (right now SSFIV 3D, and then DOA:D!) for awesome barefoot babe enjoyment on the go. Later then, footfans!

Dead or Alive Dimensions

Dead or Alive was, once upon a time, one of the top fighting game franchises out there. It was, in fact, one of the first games that gave us really hot and sexy barefoot babes to play with, care of the first DOA home versions- the totally awesome Dead or Alive for Playstation in particular. Among the unlockables were sexy swimsuits for the ladies, in which they were barefoot. To this day, the PSX version of DOA is one of the crown jewels in my barefoot babe game collection. Sadly, after that an obscene amount of time and sequels of DOA2 passed before another DOA babe would show off her bare feet for footfans- that was Dead or Alive 3, with the super-cute karate princess, Hitomi. Easily, this half-German, half-Japanese hottie captured a lot of hearts the first time she appeared in a DOA3 trailer in her karate gi, kicking her bare sole into the camera. Awesome! Hitomi would once again appear in an even sexier karate gi version AND an awesome bikini in Dead or Alive Ultimate (yet another Must-Have barefoot babe game).

Sadly, after that things became murky with the series. DOA4 was atrocious in that not one babe had a barefoot outfit- even Hitomi lost her karate gi, a trademark outfit (this was made even more annoying by the fact that she had several different colored versions of one dress... the devs really screwed footfans). Perhaps as karmic punishment, the series went into remission as it's 'father', Tomonobu Itagaki left Tecmo. Years passed, and even though rumors of DOA5 were heard here and there, nothing ever came out.

Well, now here's Dead or Alive: Dimensions, a version of the game for the Nintendo 3DS. It seems to be a mishmash of the series, throwing in all the characters, along with a snazzy Story Mode (Chronicle) and various goodies. The best news though is that, at the very least, barefoot fans have a reason to get interested in DOAD- Hitomi has her karate gi outfit back! Aside from the costumes already in the game, there will apparently be more outfits that you can download. Here's to them giving us sexy barefoot bikinis! Well, that's not for sure, but at least we have karate Hitomi confirmed. Anyway, with DOA Dimensions and Super Streetfighter IV on the Nintendo portable, barefoot babe fans may want to check out the 3DS if they're looking for a mobile gaming fix. I just may pick up one up when DOAD launches later this month. For now though, enjoy the vids!

Hitomi (Dead or Alive)

She Kicks High! Hitomi's feet aren't as detailed as with today's fighting games, but that didn't keep footfans then from ogling them endlessly.

Ah, Dead or Alive. It was, in it's time, one of the premiere fighting games, even if it was often chided for being a bit too heavy on the fan service. A little fan service never harmed anybody, and DOA had a LOT. The DOA babes were hot polygon princesses who jiggled and jostled their way into fighting gamers' hearts. Sadly, the series is more known for boobs than feet, with only the port of the original Dead or Alive on Playstation giving us all the available beauties barefoot in sexy bikinis. Since then though, the series went astray, disappointing fans repeatedly with the ad infinitum rehashes of DOA2, most of whom had either no or few alternate costumes, NONE of them showing off the girls' feet.

Thankfully after the dark age of DOA2, Tecmo's fighter returned to foot fans' good graces with Dead or Alive 3. A flagship fighting game for the debuting Xbox, DOA3 featured amazing graphics several new fighters- one of them being of course, Hitomi. A teenage karate fighter decked out in a traditional martial arts gi, this German-Japanese barefoot beauty made her first appearance in the DOA3 trailer, performing her cool martial arts kata, bare soles kicking at the camera and entrancing foot fans everywhere. She was cute AND hot as well as being kick-butt awesome, her lovely bare feet as beautlful as they were deadly. I can tell you, Hitomi was my favorite from there on, the sole reason for purchasing an Xbox and a copy of Dead or Alive 3. Good times, indeed.

Hitomi would continue to charm fans as the series continued into odd directions, such as the DOAX games. Even among all the other also-bikini-clad-and-barefoot ladies in the game, Hitomi still stood out (who could resist her when she did her sexy dances, or trademark kata in her bikinis?) thanks to her winsome, down-to-earth charm and girl-next-door good looks.

Then came Dead or Alive Ultimate, which is truly aptly named. Thanks to her popularity, Hitomi was included in the remade version of DOA2 Ultimate. And lucky that she did- Hitomi is the only babe to go barefoot in the game, not only in her trademark karate gi, but in a sexy polka-dot bikini! The sight of Hitomi, bikini-clad and barefoot, kicking butt, is divine indeed, and solidified Hitomi as DOA's true Barefoot Goddess, and makes DOA Ultimate the single most important Dead or Alive game in any foot fan's collection (next to DOA PSX).

Sadly, the fourth and apparently final Dead or Alive game, DOA4, horrified all with the absurd omission of Hitomi's karate gi from the selection of outfits. Never mind that they had room for about three or four different colored versions of a German skirted dress, there was apparently no space for Hitomi's trademark martial arts costume. It was blasphemy indeed, and I still can't believe how moronic Team Ninja was for that.

Well, we still had DOAU, which is where surely Hitomi is at her sexiest, and that's all we need.

Anyway, enjoy these new HD vids from Dead or Alive 3 and Dead or Alive Ultimate. Even in this day of HD graphics and awesomely-detailed character models and environments in games like Tekken 6 and Soulcalibur IV, the Dead or Alive games still look decent. Even if her feet aren't as detailed and sculpted as finely as the Tekken or VF Girls, Hitomi's soles are still a treasure and a pleasure for foot-loving gamers.


Hitomi follows the Fighter's Road in Dead or Alive 3.


Not even a genetically-engineered superweapon is a match for Hitomi's feet!


Whether dishing it out or taking it, Hitomi is always a knockout.


Karate Princess vs Bikini Goddess!

As of this writing, the future of Dead or Alive is uncertain. Tecmo still has the option to continue their fighting game franchise, even without the participation of the series' creator, Itagaki. If so, I hope they see fit to reinstate Hitomi as the barefoot karate princess that she is, and perhaps update the game with true Character Customization so we can have all the DOA babes barefoot. Even if this great event should take place, surely Hitomi will always retain a special place in our foot-fancying hearts.
